Looking for something to do tonight? Well look no further; swing dancing in the center of downtown is the perfect spot for you! Whether you want to dance or be a spectator, Rosa Parks is the hoppin’ place to be on Tuesday nights between May and September! These nights at Rosa Parks Circle are full of enjoyable jazz music, beautifully flowing skirts, high heeled shoes, and movement that will mesmerize you.
Don’t know how to swing dance? No problem! If you come at 7:00 p.m. there will be a half hour lesson given by East Cost Swing to help you learn a quick step or two! Then it’s open swing dancing until 10:00 p.m. for just 4 dollars!!!! And if you don’t have your dancing shoes on, you can feel free to sit on the steps around the park and watch the dancers perform their works of art! However, don’t be afraid to get out there and try it! We promise we won’t laugh if you discover you have two left feet! 🙂
Grand Rapids Swing is a group of local dancers that have been dancing together since 1996 and partake in all forms of Swing, Lindy Hop, Blues, Jazz and even throw in some ballroom and Latin style dancing! If you’re looking to learn how to dance with a small group of people, they offer private dancing lessons at different venues and you may contact them via their website! Also on their website is a list of performances!
The Grand Rapids Original Swing Society hosts swing dancing every Tuesday night- and if the weather is bad you can find them at either the GR Public Museum or the Masonic Temple! So every Tuesday you can get your swing on!
